A "nightlife" isn't all it's cracked up to be
I recently learned the value of sleep. I live in an apartment full of guys who love to have fun. Obviously we get along well. A little too well. It seems every night we have something going on. We're always going somewhere to hang out with somebody and doing something. Sometimes these plans don't even start til around midnight. It doesn't matter to us if it's the weekend or just any old weekday. Being a natural fun loving person, i always tag along because i don't want to miss out on anything cool. Well we've had alot of fun and made some good memories but it takes a toll on my body and mind. It's gets to be pretty unhealthy. I just got over a cold that i've had for about three weeks. It was near impossible to shake with the sleeping patterns i've had lately. but getting a full (8 hours) of sleep the past couple of days has made a big difference. I feel better throughout the day and i'm performing better in school. So take it from me. Try to get some sleep some of the time because a "nightlife" isn't all it's cracked up to be.

Stay Thankful This Seaon by Saving Money

The countdown to turkey day has begun and as that is followed by the countdown to christmas and new years as well. The holiday season is the most deadly out of the whole year. It is easy to see the truth of this statement if you live somewhere similiar to where i live. It snows. Keep in mind as you travel throughout the next couple of months that road conditions will be less than ideal and remember to slow down. Also, Travel nowadays can be very costly. Especially when you have to travel a long distance. One way to try and save money while traveling is to carpool. Find others on travel boards or through friends that need to go where you are going and ask if you can carpool. Have everyone split the cost of gas, and possibly switch off driving. This can be a fun, less expensive way to make it home to live with your family and friends for the holidays. It is also safer to travel with a friend, as opposed to traveling alone. Try to make this holiday season the happiest and safest ever.

Survival of the Fittest

Today in class we talked about different ways people get injured in motor vehicles, at home, in our leisure activities, and at work. I thought it was funny the way people threw out random injuries throughout the activity (one guy said "Bear Attacks" and someone else said "Paper Cuts"). But the list also included many common and serious injries as well. After we had a list of different ways people hurt themselves and others, we talked about ways we can prevent these injuries. Someone said "We need to get more sleep because driving drowsy is just as bad as driving drunk." That statement made me think about all the stupid things we do as humans that injure us that can easily be avoided. Just by waking up earlier so we don't have to speed to work or school while we put on our makeup can make a huge difference. Be patient and don't text while driving. Wait til after you stop and get out of the car to write your friends back. It would also help you stay safer and save money to ride the bus. This saves gas money and keeps traffic minimal.
In conclusion, Take care of yourself. Don't be negligent. And remember to look out for other people. I think we'll all be surprised at the number of lives we save and injuries we prevent by putting a little extra effort in safety.

Aging Death and Dying
Today for class we were assigned to write a paper on Aging, Death, and Dying. I wasn't looking forward to writing it at all. But i was surprised to find that i was so interested in the subject. I too have strong emotions and views on aging death and dying. I realized as i typed the paper and thought about it that it is sometihing that do have an opinion on. I'm comfortable with aging and growing older. (at least for now haha) And I feel that I have enough knowledge of the afterlife that i can comfortably deal with the idea of death.
I believe that my views on Aging, Death and Dying are responsible and realistic. I also believe after this whole experience that thinking about things like this is very healthy. Never supress your emotions.

Survive the winter
When I woke up this morning my apartment was like an igloo and I had a sore throat and my lips were chapped. As the day went on, it got worse. My sore throat moved up into the back of my head and feels like someone is building a house on my skull. My nose is running like Niagara Falls and last time i checked, my fever was up to about 180 degrees. Oh, and it is FREEZING outside. All I can say is, it must be winter. The winter season can be an expensive one. We crank up the heater, pack indoors and drive everywhere. Walking or waiting outside at the bus stop no longer becomes an option.
However, there are ways to survive this winter without draining your bank account. For example, instead of cranking up the heater in your home and car everyday, Bundle up. Get some of those nice wool socks to wear and dress in layers when you go out. Make sure you wear a hat too. You lose most of your body heat through your head. Also, it's a good idea to spend more time indoors during the winter season. But be extra conscious of how much power you are using. Turn unused lights off, wash dishes by hand, and go to bed sooner. This way you can keep your energy bill reasonable.

Happy Halloween!

As far as I'm concerned, holidays are for fun and they are definitely funner when I don't worry about what i eat. I'm not saying that I guard the donut platter and hug the punch bowl. I'm just saying that the holidays are meant to be wild and fun. So I say feel free to let loose and don't worry as much about the food you eat. Just enjoy the holiday and have a good time. Sometimes that can be just as healthy for you in the long run. Just be careful not to form any bad eating habits during the holiday season.

Nutrition Project

I recently participated in a nutrition project for my health class. In the project I had use the Nutrition Pyramid on http://www.mypyramid.gov/ to keep track and record everything i ate for three consecutive days. One of the days had to be on a weekend and two had to be weekdays. After recording and analyzing the food I eat, I realized how unbalanced of a diet I have. It also led to my realization that I eat alot more on weekends than I do throughout the week. I believe this is due to the amount of free time i have on weekends. I'm not busy with school and work so I get bored and eat. I find this to be a very unhealthy and expensive habit. I would encourage anyone who is wondering if they eat healthy or not to start recording how much and what you eat.
